Holiday tip - Chemnitz Zoo
During the autumn holidays, short tours of various animal species will be offered daily at 11 am. It starts on Monday, 8 October with the kangaroos. There will also be other offers at Chemnitz Zoo: On Thursday, 11 October and Tuesday, 16 October, both starting at 11 a.m., there will be two workshops lasting several hours on the topic of "animal occupation".
On Saturday, 13 October, there will be a "morning tour" of the zoo for the first time. Zoo educator Jan Klösters invites interested visitors to accompany him on a morning tour. Here you can get to know the zoo from a completely different angle and at a different time. The tour starts at 7.30 a.m. and lasts around 90 minutes. Please book in advance (at tierpark@stadt-chemnitz.de or 0371/850028). Participation in the tour costs 10 euros per person and is limited to 20 people. The wildlife enclosure also offers show feedings every weekday at 11 a.m. (wolves and lynx on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; mouflons and wild boar on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Lots of visitors at the children's festival
The children's festival at the zoo on 3 October, which this year was held under the motto "A bouquet for Chemnitz" to mark the city's anniversary, was a complete success - in the truest sense of the word. More than 2,800 visitors found their way to the zoo on this day, where, in addition to many hands-on activities for young and old and a varied stage programme, there were also one or two "animal" offers on the programme.
The Wildlife Park Day on 30 September, organised by the animal park supporters' association "Tierparkfreunde Chemnitz e.V.", was also very well attended. More than 1,100 people made their way to Oberrabenstein on the day and celebrated the festival dedicated to the red deer in good spirits.
