Historic Chemnitz lantern for artwork in Prague
Lord Mayor presents donation to his counterpart on 4 October
On Friday, 4 October, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze hands over a historic lantern as a gift to the Lord Mayor of Prague, Bohuslav Svoboda, in the studio of artist Krištof Kintera in Prague. The Chemnitz lantern will become part of a work of art that will be on display in Prague.
The city of Prague is building a new bridge in the south of the city, designed by the architecture studio Atelier6 and the designer Tuec, which will connect the neighbourhoods of Pankrác and Smichov. The riverbank areas at the edge of the bridge will be designed by the renowned Prague artist Krištof Kintera. According to his design, a multifunctional cubist landscape and an imaginary botanical garden with a sculpture by the artist will be created. The city of Prague is collecting street lamps from all over the world for this sculpture.
Mayor Schulze will take the opportunity on this occasion to invite his Prague counterpart to take part in the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in January.
On this day, Sven Schulze will also hold talks with the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism of the City of Prague, Jiří Pospíšil, and other cultural and tourism stakeholders in Prague to discuss more intensive cooperation between the two cities.
Sven Schulze will also meet the head of the Czech-German Future Fund, Tomáš Jelínek, to discuss cooperation in relation to the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and long-term development in the years beyond.
