Highlights of nature photography 2022
Museum für Naturkunde: Exhibition opening on 23 November, 5 pm, TIETZ
On Wednesday, 23 November at 5 p.m., the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz invites you to the opening of the special exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography 2022" at the TIETZ.
The international photo competition "Highlights of Nature Photography" has been running for 24 years. This year, participation was again very high. A jury selected the winning images from 15,750 pictures by more than 836 photographers from 41 countries.
The winner of the 2022 competition is Ivan Pedretti from Italy. His image "The Eye" shows a rock in the foreground with greenish layers around a central round stone and a sky with a slight aurora borealis in the background. The photo was taken on the beach on the island of Vestvågøya in Norway.
"The eyes immediately grasp the main subject, the round stone in the foreground, and are led through the image by the shapes and structures, right up to the cloudy sky that stops the view," said the competition organisers. The judges commented on their decision by saying that the picture tells a multifaceted story: "A single stone, beach, rocks, northern lights, stars and clouds - it all adds up to an incredibly unique whole, which the viewer of the picture has the impression of being right in the middle of."
The travelling exhibition will be on display at the TIETZ museum from 24 November 2022 to 15 January 2023. An "appetiser" will also be presented on the 5th floor of the adult education centre.
The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of the Museum für Naturkunde:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9am to 5pm, and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, from 10am to 6pm (closed on Wednesdays).
The exhibition is closed on the two Saturdays, 24 and 31 December.
The opening hours of the adult education centre apply to the exhibition section on the 5th floor.
