Highlights of nature photography 2016
Invitation to the exhibition opening at TIETZ on 26 October, 5 pm
The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz opens the special exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography 2016" tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 October 2016 at 5 pm. The exhibition will take place in the gallery of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in Tietz. The pictures will be on display until
3 January 2017. Anyone interested is cordially invited to the exhibition opening. Admission is free.
The Highlights of Nature Photography has been running for 18 years. This year, too, the selection of photographs was very large - a jury selected the winning images from 21,654 pictures by over 1,000 photographers from 38 countries. The exhibition has been travelling through Germany since May 2016.
For the opening ceremony, the Museum für Naturkunde was able to win over the young photographer Carl Ahner from Dresden(www.camelicon.de). The motto of his opening lecture is "Photography is music for the eyes".
This year's winner of the competition is Thomas Kolenbrander from Germany. With his image "Dramaturgy of the Sky", a cloudy sky over West Iceland, the jury has declared a landscape photograph the winner for the first time and a black and white image for the first time. "By reducing it to the essentials, a black and white picture gains its expressiveness and stands out from all the other category winners," said the competition organisers.
