Highlights of nature photography
Museum für Naturkunde presents the exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography" in the gallery of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre from 8 November 2018.
From Thursday, 8 November 2018, until Tuesday, 15 January 2019, the Museum of Natural History is presenting the special exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography" in the gallery of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre (5th floor).
Among the 85 award-winning photographs from the international competition is the photographic artwork "Aufgeschnappt" by Markus Varesvuo from Finland. "For me, this picture represents the beginning of a story whose end is still a long way off," says Dr Thorid Zierold, Curator of Natural Sciences. The picture portrays a "made-up surprise guest" - the waxwing. This strikingly coloured songbird can be observed as a winter visitor in Chemnitz between November and April. Especially when the food supply in the breeding areas of northern Scandinavia and Russia is no longer sufficient.
The "Highlights of Nature Photography" is one of the largest German nature photography competitions. Over 18,000 images were submitted by photographers from 39 countries this year. The result is impressive proof of the high reputation of the Glanzlichter and clearly demonstrates the esteem in which the nature photography competition has been held both nationally and internationally for 20 years now.
The special exhibition can be seen during the opening hours of the Museum für Naturkunde:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 5pm, at weekends and on public holidays from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.
For all enthusiasts, the Museum für Naturkunde offers the opportunity to purchase the photographs of the winners with detailed information in the accompanying book "Glanzlichter 2018".
