"Here I am a child, here I can be one." Playful learning in a reform school
Exhibition opening on 21 January 2016 in the Chemnitz City Library
Jasmin Trinks, TU Chemnitz, Centre for Teacher Education, will open the exhibition "Hier bin ich Kind, hier darf ich's sein." with an introductory lecture on the reformist educational ideas of the teacher Karl Prelle on Thursday, 21 January 2016 at 10 a.m. in the city library in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.
Just 100 years ago, obedience, diligence, order and cleanliness were the most important teaching objectives. Teachers were regarded as untouchable figures of respect in the classroom, who used the rod or cane if pupils disobeyed. At the beginning of the 20th century, reform pedagogy gave rise to educational concepts that favoured child-oriented, practical and non-violent teaching methods.
Karl Prelle (1895 - 1975) was a representative of the basic idea of reform pedagogy. The teacher from Lower Saxony was dedicated to education and upbringing and designed his lessons to be true to life, so that his pupils would enjoy school and have fun learning. To this end, he taught in small groups, developed a series of educational games and reorganised the classrooms with his pupils to create an atmosphere conducive to learning.
The travelling exhibition of the Centre for Teacher Training at Chemnitz University of Technology can be seen until 23 February 2016 in the Central Library of Chemnitz City Library in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.
