Heiko Schinkitz signs the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz
The long-standing President of the Chemnitz City Sports Association, Heiko Schinkitz, was immortalised in the City of Chemnitz's Golden Book on Thursday evening in the presence of Lord Mayor Sven Schulze. The 65-year-old was surprised with the entry during the 12th City Sports Day. Heiko Schinkitz is thus honoured for his voluntary commitment and his tireless work for the Chemnitz sports landscape.
Heiko Schinkitz is a qualified sports teacher and worked as a training scientist at the Chemnitz/Dresden Olympic Training Centre until the end of last year. An active track and field athlete at SC Karl-Marx-Stadt during the GDR era, he has been involved with SG Adelsberg since the political changeover and has shaped the city's club landscape for many years as a member of the Chemnitz City Sports Association. He guided the fortunes of the Chemnitz City Sports Association for 13 years as President and was its Vice President for 16 years. He has now handed over the baton at the head of the city sports association.
"His commitment to the city sports association since 1990 has been an asset to the entire city. Heiko Schinkitz was instrumental in setting up suitable structures, updating and optimising the city's sports funding guidelines and creating coaching positions to promote young talent. His aim was always to further improve the status of sport as an important social responsibility. We are honouring him for this with this award," said Lord Mayor Sven Schulze.
This is the second time that Heiko Schinkitz has been entered in the City of Chemnitz's Golden Book. He received this honour in August 2004 for his many years of voluntary work as a city councillor.
