The current high temperatures and persistent drought are significantly increasing the risk of wildfires and forest fires. High temperatures without rain are again forecast for the coming days, which will make the situation more difficult.
The City of Chemnitz Parks and Gardens Department is therefore appealing for special caution when handling fire due to the high fire risk in parks, green spaces and forests. Even a small spark from a carelessly discarded cigarette butt can start an uncontrolled fire and have devastating consequences, including for flora and fauna.
According to the green space regulations of the city of Chemnitz, barbecues are no longer permitted in designated barbecue areas in public green spaces from forest fire risk level 3.
Furthermore, all activities that could cause a fire must be avoided in green spaces, parks and forests. Above all, this includes refraining from using open fires - i.e. lighters, matches, candles or lit cigarettes should not be used. Rubbish should also not be left lying around, as this can significantly increase the risk of a fire starting.
