Health department opens its doors

Hands-on activities for young and old: on 15 March, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, 15 March, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., interested parties are invited to the "Open Health Office Day" at the Office for Health and Prevention, Am Rathaus 8, as well as in the outdoor area around the building. Visitors can expect a variety of exciting hands-on activities and programme items for young and old on the topic of health as well as insights into the daily work of the office. The employees will present the numerous tasks of the office. There will be opportunities for advice, information and dialogue.

The varied programme offers many activities on health-promoting topics, such as Cooking and hands-on activities, delicious drinks with the smoothie bike, exercise programmes for young and old, vaccination advice (please bring your vaccination card), "Become a dentist yourself" - filling tooth holes on a plaster model for children, proper hand hygiene and much more.

Lectures will provide specialist knowledge on selected topics, e.g. on prevention programmes offered by the city of Chemnitz (also for professionals) and valuable tips on proper dental care for senior citizens.

Together with other partners, there will be a job and training fair on selected healthcare professions. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., representatives from the MEDiC degree programme, the City of Chemnitz training programme, the employment agency and the Chemnitz Clinic's medical vocational school will be on hand to answer questions about studying, further education and training. All school leavers and those interested in further qualification in healthcare professions are cordially invited.

One of the highlights of the day for the youngest visitors will be the Chemnitz fire brigade, which will be on site with an ambulance that can be inspected. The 3rd year emergency paramedic trainees will explain the technology, explain first aid measures and demonstrate the use of a defibrillator. A teddy bear clinic will also open its doors and treat the teddy bears and cuddly toys brought along by the children.

Head of office Katja Uhlemann: "We want to use the day of action to show how varied the tasks in the public health service are every day. How can the spread of infectious diseases be stopped? When is a child fit for school? What is the optimal diet for babies? Who provides support in the event of a serious illness or helps in a crisis?
The work of the Office for Health and Prevention touches on many areas of life and everyday life. Join us on a tour of discovery. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you."
