Handover of funding decisions to the city of Chemnitz

On Friday, 21 December at 9.30 a.m., State Secretary Prof. Dr Günther Schneider will hand over funding decisions from the Saxon Ministry of the Interior (SMI) totalling 6,384,000 euros to Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig in the foyer of the small gymnasium in the Sportforum.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.


Six measures from the fields of sport and urban development will be funded. The individual measures are

  • Reconstruction of the two gymnasiums for 6.9 million euros gross. Of this, 4.2 million euros (one million euros from the federal government and 3.2 million euros from the state) will be subsidised.
  • Renovation of the Markersdorfer Straße sports hall complex for 2.1 million euros. Of this, 870,000 euros will be subsidised by the state.
  • Renovation of the sports floor in the Richard Hartmann Hall. The total costs amount to 590,000 euros. Of this, 225,000 euros will be subsidised by the state.
  • Support for the ESF project "SElfMADe - skills training for the long-term unemployed" totalling 174,000 euros. The programme for "Sustainable Social Urban Development ESF 2014 to 2021" aims to strengthen the self-efficacy and self-confidence of long-term unemployed people aged 25 to 65.
  • At the multi-generation centre at Irkutsker Straße 15, the access road with disabled parking spaces is being improved, the courtyard is being renovated and the therapy areas are being upgraded with sanitary facilities. The funding from the federal and state governments amounts to around 175,000 euros. The construction project will cost a total of 230,000 euros, of which 19,400 euros will be borne by the city and 36,000 euros by the organisation responsible for the facility, solaris FZA gGmbH Sachsen.
  • As part of the "Future Urban Green" urban development programme, the previously approved funding will be increased by 740,000 euros from the federal and state governments. The city of Chemnitz was included in the programme with the "Pleißenbach green corridor" development area.
