On Monday, 5 December, Mayor Barbara Ludwig will receive the notification from State Minister Thomas Schmidt, Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture, regarding the provision of funding amounting to 112,500 euros for the expansion of Konkordia Park to include a football pitch. The handover will take place at 8.30 a.m. in the town hall in the offices of the Lord Mayor.
Representatives of the press are cordially invited to attend.
Konkordiapark is a popular leisure facility for predominantly young people that is known beyond the city limits. It includes a skate park, a pool area, a dirt track, a streetball court and, since 2016, a parkour facility. It is now being supplemented by a football pitch. This is made possible by federal funding totalling 112,500 euros, which has now been made available. The City of Chemnitz is making its own contribution of 37,500 euros.
As with the previous measures, the city's green space department is planning the project together with users. Following on from the proven success story of the Konkordia leisure park, several workshops and discussion rounds will be organised with the involvement of all interested parties. Implementation is scheduled for 2017 to 2018.
