Guideline on reasonable expenses for accommodation and heating adopted
Price developments are taken into account
At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council adopted a new guideline on the appropriateness of expenses for accommodation and heating under Social Code II and XII. Accordingly, from 1 May 2022, €302.88 gross rent (basic rent plus cold operating costs) will be recognised for a one-person household, for example. In the previous version, €284.16 was recognised as appropriate.
The Federal Social Court requires a regular update of the coherent concept that forms the basis for this guideline. The data is based on the qualified rent index, which the City of Chemnitz also has regularly reviewed and updated. This approach is generally accepted by the social courts.
With regard to heating and hot water costs, a multi-stage procedure applies due to the expected price increases.
In financial terms, the administration expects this update of the guideline to result in additional expenses totalling a maximum of 3.2 million euros in 2022. Taking into account the development of the communities in need and the planned expenses for 2022, the expected additional costs are covered by the planned estimate.
