Guests from Finland visit the Municipal Music School

Reception is part of the exchange on the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025

From 8 to 12 December, Chemnitz Municipal Music School will be welcoming guests from Oulu (Finland). The director of the Oulu Music Conservatory, Noora Tuominen, and two other Finnish music teachers will attend the music school's annual Christmas concert on 9 December in the Carlowitz Congress Centre and a Christmas concert for plucked instruments on 11 December in the concert hall of the Municipal Music School.

Thanks to funding from the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH as part of the "Soft Skills Academy I and II" programme, Chemnitz Municipal Music School can prepare for a joint exchange with Finland in 2025 and 2026. A visit by a Finnish guitar ensemble to Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture, is planned for late summer 2025. The ensemble from Oulu and the guitar ensemble from Chemnitz Municipal Music School will rehearse a commissioned work by Polish composer Janko Raseta and perform it together. This work will be dedicated to the Chemnitz Capital of Culture year.

In the following year, 2026, when Oulu will be European Capital of Culture, the Chemnitz Music School's plucked string orchestra is planning a return visit. The head of the guitar department in Chemnitz, Ollipekka Määttä, is Finnish himself and is delighted that the European Capital of Culture will enable new cooperation and a student exchange with his home country. The teachers and directors of the two music schools are confident that this exchange will be the start of a long-term collaboration.
