Grüna primary school: prefabricated building in fresh colours
The city has now invested around 2.2 million euros - including 882,000 euros in subsidies - in the reconstruction of the 30-year-old Grüna primary school, which also serves as an after-school care centre. The typical prefabricated building of the Baumgarten primary school at August-Bebel-Straße 7 was renovated after a year and a half of construction work while the school continued to operate.
During this reconstruction, which included renovating the flat roof, draining the building and insulating the façade, the dilapidated windows were also replaced with new ones. Fire doors were also installed and the sanitary facilities renewed. The windows of the south-facing classrooms were fitted with sun protection.
A lift and a disabled toilet were installed to ensure accessibility. Barrier-free access to the building has also been created.
Corridors and walls on each floor now have a colour-coordinated appearance. Teachers and the municipal building department worked together with the planning office to come up with the school's colour concept.
There is still a little work to be done on the building: The painting work on the plinth and façade should be completed this week, depending on the weather. Finally, the outdoor facilities will take shape in the spring.
There are currently 144 pupils in seven classes at Baumgarten Primary School Grüna.
