Grove maintenance work in the Südring and Neefestraße area
Measures to begin in the first quarter of 2016
During the ongoing tree and area inspections carried out by the Parks Department, it was established that tree maintenance work is required in the areas of the Südring and Neefestraße in the roadside plantings.
On Südring, the section between Friedrich-Otto-Schimmel-Straße and Reichenhainer Straße needs to be cut back to keep an amphibian tunnel in working order. Willows (Salix caprea) will be pruned to regulate the vegetation in the area.
The roadside greenery along Neefestraße is to be maintained in the section between Südring and Jagdschänkenstraße. Trees with damaged trunks, rotting, undesirable development in the crown area and other damage need to be removed. The aim is to create the clearance profile and improve the development opportunities of the remaining trees and shrubs.
The measures will be carried out by employees of Chemnitz City Council until the end of February.
Without exception, all of the upcoming work is urgent and serves to maintain or establish road safety.
All woodland maintenance measures in terms of the duty to maintain road safety are legally permissible and do not constitute an offence under §39 BNatSchG or §25 SächsNatSchg.
