Ground-breaking ceremony for the new equipment centre of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade and the Glösa rescue station

Next Saturday, 10 March at 10 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will perform the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the new building of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade and Glösa rescue station together with Oliver Jungnickel, head of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade, and Bianca Schneider, youth officer of the Glösa fire brigade. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
The new building for the fire and rescue station at Bornaer Straße 205 is scheduled for completion in January 2019: "The comrades of the volunteer fire brigades and the employees of the rescue service make an indispensable contribution to civil protection in the city of Chemnitz. I am therefore delighted that modern conditions for this important work can now also be created in the north of Chemnitz with the construction of the new equipment centre and rescue station," said Mayor Sven Schulze.
Once completed, the building will have a total area of 1,245 square metres, spread over three floors. The fire brigade will occupy 822 square metres and the rescue station 423 square metres. The plot has a size of 2,400 square metres.
Background
According to the fire protection requirements plan of the city of Chemnitz, a new fire station is being built for the Chemnitz-Glösa volunteer fire brigade in conjunction with a rescue station. The site at Bornaer Straße 205 was acquired by the city as a suitable location. This new rescue station will improve the provision of emergency services to the population in the northern districts of Röhrsdorf, Wittgensdorf, Borna, Heinersdorf, Furth and Glösa.
The city of Chemnitz will be responsible for the construction of the new fire station. The costs for this amount to approx. 1.93 million euros, of which 540,000 euros have been applied for funding. The Chemnitz/Erzgebirge Rescue Association will finance the new rescue centre, which will cost around 770,000 euros, on its own.
