Ground-breaking ceremony for school for the physically disabled
Invitation for media representatives on 24 August at 9:30 a.m.
The official ground-breaking ceremony for this year's largest school construction project will take place on Friday, 24 August. At 9.30 a.m., City Treasurer Berthold Brehm and Minister of State for Education Brunhild Kurth will announce the start of construction work on the Special Education Support Centre - Chemnitz School for the Physically Disabled. Media representatives are cordially invited to the event. The meeting point is on Heinrich-Schütz-Straße, at the Yorkstraße junction.
After a dual school complex for the physically disabled and the Chemnitz school model could not be realised due to a lack of funding, the Chemnitz City Council decided on 20 June 2012 to build a new school facility at the Heinrich-Schütz-Straße site. A total of 32.6 million euros will be invested in the extensive construction project. The city of Chemnitz itself is investing almost 18 million euros of this.
The new school site will house a school for the physically disabled, a two-court sports hall with outdoor facilities, a residential home, all-day care for children and young people with physical and multiple disabilities and therapy rooms.
