Green seating islands set up in the city centre
New places to linger on the market, Neumarkt and station forecourt
Employees of the city's green spaces department have today begun installing green seating islands in the city centre, which are intended to further increase the quality of stay and extend the time spent in Chemnitz city centre. Over the course of the week, a total of twelve new objects will be installed on the Markt and Neumarkt squares as well as on the station forecourt.
The elements are raised-bed containers made of Corten steel, planted with ornamental apples and shrubs and surrounded by seating.
The green seating islands function as a mobile variant and can be set up at various locations in the city. This means they can be integrated into city centre events such as the upcoming Chemnitz brewery market or the wine village.
Financing was provided by the City of Chemnitz City Centre Fund and the Green Space Office. The total investment amounts to 56,000 euros.
The measure serves to further revitalise the city centre and increase the quality of stay in the named locations.
The colourful seating furniture in the shape of a C, which has been in place on Neumarkt since last summer, will be installed on Jakobikirchplatz from next week.
