Great women in Saxony - exhibition and programme

Adult education centre: "frauenorte sachsen" touring exhibition from 3 to 29 April

From today until 29 April, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is showing the touring exhibition "frauenorte sachsen" and is offering a three-part supporting programme.

With the "frauenorte sachsen" project, the Saxony Women's Council has been honouring Saxony's history of women's movements since 2016. The project is accompanied by a travelling exhibition, which shows all the women's places inaugurated by 2021 on exhibition boards. Three of these plaques can also be found in Chemnitz - for Ernestine Minna Simon, textile worker and strike leader in the former Chemnitz stock spinning mill, for Marie Luise Pleißner, teacher, peace activist and women's rights campaigner, and for Marianne Brandt, photographer and designer.

On Thursday, 20 April, these three women will be presented in detail in a separate event entitled "In portrait: Three Chemnitz women write history". Stephan Luther from the University Archive of Chemnitz University of Technology, Regina Doerffel from the Chemnitzer Geschichtsverein e. V. and Dr Jörg Feldkamp from the Marianne-Brandt-Gesellschaft e. V. will be speaking that evening.

The exhibition and the event on 20 April are a cooperation between the Landesfrauenrat Sachsen e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, supported by the University Archive of Chemnitz University of Technology.

Other parts of the supporting programme for the exhibition include the themed city tour "Great Women of Chemnitz" on Tuesday, 18 April, as well as the presentation of Beate Kunath's documentary film "Hurray, it's a girl!", which premiered in 2018, on Thursday, 27 April.
