On Friday 8 February at 12.30 p.m., Saxony's Minister for the Arts, Dr Eva-Maria Stange, will hand over the grant notification for better pay for employees to Chemnitz Municipal Theatre. As budget legislator, the state parliament has released an additional 40 million euros for the cultural centres over the next four years. Of this amount, 28 million euros (7 million euros per year) is earmarked for increasing the salaries of employees covered by collective wage agreements at nine municipal theatres and orchestras and for expanding the cultural offerings of these institutions. 12 million euros (3 million euros per year) will be used to strengthen the other artistic disciplines in the cultural areas.

In June 2018, the Supervisory Board of the municipal theatres decided to use these additional funds and financial resources from the city of Chemnitz to enable the employees of the municipal theatres to return to the industry-wide wage agreement at the beginning of 2019.

On 24 October 2018, the city council of the city confirmed the concept of Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH for the development of the theatre from 2019 to 2022, subject to the granting of structural funds by the Free State and a return to the regional collective agreement from 2019.
