Good progress being made on repairing road damage

Most of the winter damage to Chemnitz's road network has been repaired. Thanks to the mild weather, the city's civil engineering department has been working on the main roads and roads with bus routes (the so-called reserved network) since mid-March, initially with three repair crews and hot mix. Apart from a few remaining jobs in the districts of Bernsdorf, Euba, Harthau, Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain, Reichenhain and Röhrsdorf, the repair work has been completed. The final completion of the reserved network will take place by the end of April. This will be followed by winter damage repair work on the secondary road network, which is expected to involve four repair crews from the municipal civil engineering department. This work should be completed by mid-May. The civil engineering yard will be supported by two companies on the basis of framework contracts in the districts of Gablenz, Kappel, Kaßberg, Kapellenberg, Luther Quarter and the city centre.
During the frost period, it was only possible to work with cold mix, i.e. the potholes could mostly only be closed provisionally to ensure road safety.
In general, the city of Chemnitz is endeavouring to carry out thorough repairs to roads and footpaths within the available financial means and possibilities. Around €12 million per year is available in the city's 2023/2024 budget to maintain and repair the transport infrastructure.
However, construction work also means temporary restrictions for road users. We ask for your understanding. The weekly roadworks information for the main road network reflects these activities. With the coordination of construction measures for sewage, gas, fibre optics, etc., the thorough renovation of the road surface often marks the end of construction activity.
