Global warming direct: A report from the North and South Poles
Lecture at the Environmental Centre on 30 November, 7 pm
On 30 November at 7 pm, the Chemnitz Environmental Centre and the Sustainable Saloon Chemnitz are hosting a lecture at Henriettenstraße 5, 09112 Chemnitz. Dr Juliane Müller (Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven) will be speaking on the topic of Global Warming Directly: A Report from the North and South Poles.
What is the state of our climate? How much is the climate warming? How can we really be sure? And what do marine algae, which have been lying dormant at the poles for thousands of years, tell us about how the climate will change in the future?
Junior researcher Dr Juliane Müller travelled to the Arctic and Antarctic on the icebreaker Polarstern. The findings from these trips will help to improve climate models and will now be presented in Chemnitz. The identification and investigation of past fluctuations in polar sea ice cover and the associated climate changes represent an important aspect of polar palaeoclimate research. New methods are now available for these studies. Examples of sea ice reconstructions show how valuable these methods are for an improved understanding of the interactions in the ice-ocean-atmosphere system, and also how they can be applied in the field of climate modelling.
