Glass façade of the "Am Südring" indoor swimming pool is being renovated
The glass façade of the "Am Südring" indoor swimming pool is to be renovated. This was decided by the city council yesterday. The refurbishment is necessary due to corrosion damage to the beams of the façade. The construction work is to be realised and completed before the end of this year.
Regular inspections have shown that the support profiles of the glass façade are severely corroded and therefore jeopardised in terms of stability. To ensure safety, the profiles are currently checked on a monthly basis. Additional layer thickness measurements were carried out on the profiles at the points where the rust is particularly severe. The results of the investigations revealed that the entire structural system of the façade requires complete refurbishment.
The severe signs of corrosion are linked to a significantly leaking façade and the warm and condensing air that escapes as a result. It is also suspected that some façade cladding profiles are not properly seated on the steel supporting structure and that there are leaks there too. This also leads to a draught of air with condensation phenomena and thus to increased corrosion.
The refurbishment of the glass façade is scheduled to begin at the end of July and be completed before Christmas this year.
The total cost of the construction work is around 340,000 euros.
