Girls' Day and Boys' Day on 27 April 2017 - lots on offer for girls and boys in Chemnitz too

This year, more than 30 companies and educational institutions are taking part in the nationwide Future Day for Girls and Boys on 27 April in the city of Chemnitz and the surrounding area, including renowned companies such as VW, EnviaM and Hellweg Baumärkte. Chemnitz University of Technology and Mittweida University of Applied Sciences will also be opening their doors, as will authorities such as the Chemnitz Police Department, the German Armed Forces and the professional fire brigade.

The work of the professional fire brigade, for example, will be explained in theory and above all in practice at five stations. These include the rescue service, training (how to become a firefighter), protective clothing and vehicles, fire extinguisher training and making emergency calls."

On Girls' Day and Boys' Day on 27 April, companies, businesses and universities throughout Germany will open their doors to pupils from the 5th grade upwards. The girls and boys learn about apprenticeships and study programmes in IT, skilled trades, natural sciences and technology. They can also meet role models in leading positions in business and politics. Around 1.7 million girls have taken part in the event since it was launched in 2001. Boys' Day has complemented the campaign since 2011.
