Girls' Day and Boys' Day on 26 April 2018 - offers for girls and boys in Chemnitz too

On the nationwide Future Day for girls and boys on Thursday, 26 April, numerous companies and educational institutions will once again be taking part in the city of Chemnitz and the surrounding area, including companies such as VW, EnviaM, Siemens AG, A.T.U and Hellweg Baumärkte. Authorities such as the Chemnitz Police Headquarters and the German Armed Forces will also be opening their doors.

Girls can take a look at "atypical female professions" to broaden their horizons when choosing a career. Boys can find out about prospects in care, social services, health, etc. Because teams, whether in industry or in the social sector, work best when they are made up of both sexes. In the Girls' Day radar at www.girls-day.de or Boys' Day radar at www.boys-day.de, anyone interested can find the offers in their city, neighbourhood and throughout Germany.

Here are a few examples of what girls and boys can expect in our city this year:

The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU is opening its doors from 9 a.m. to
3 p.m. to give girls a taste of the work. In addition to a general introduction to the typical tasks of a female scientist, the schoolgirls will be invited to do their own research. Over the course of the day, the girls can immerse themselves in the world of 3D printing, materials processing and scientific analysis.

At the A.T.U Neefestraße branch, girls can spend a day looking over the shoulders of the automotive mechatronics technicians, peering under the bonnet and looking at cars from below. They can balance tyres, observe inspection and repair work and lend a hand themselves.

At the Azurit senior citizens' centre, boys can try out whether a career in nursing and caring for the elderly is something for them.

On Girls' Day and Boys' Day on 26 April, companies, businesses and universities throughout Germany open their doors to school pupils from the 5th grade upwards. The girls and boys learn about apprenticeships and study programmes in IT, skilled trades, natural sciences and technology. They can also meet role models in leading positions in business and politics. Around 1.8 million girls have taken part in the event since it was launched in 2001. Boys' Day has complemented the campaign day since 2011. Almost 225,000 boys have taken part in the past seven days of action.
