This play and leisure facility is an important focal point for children in the catchment area of the Kaßberg district of Chemnitz. The play and leisure centre is located in a listed green area and consists of the two play areas North and South. Due to the age of the facility, there is an urgent need for refurbishment.
The project was divided into two areas. On the one hand, the landscaping work forms the basis for the play areas. The existing structure of the facility will be retained due to its listed status. Secondly, the facility will be equipped with new play equipment.
A competition was held for the play equipment on the theme of "Theatre world - children's play stage". The winning design picks up on the main theme in an appealing way and subdivides it again for the two play areas (north and south). The theme is vividly and attractively realised in terms of design:
The north play area is intended for use by children aged 3 to 12 and is designed around the theme of "On stage". Play elements include a spotlight that can be climbed on, with a play walkway, balancing tracks, slide tower, double swing, double bar and wobble plate.
The south play area is for children aged 0 to 5 years. The theme of this play area is "cloakroom". A barrier-free accessible footbridge, a small sand table with a lift, sand buckets and sand scales serve as play elements for the youngest children.
In keeping with the "cloakroom" theme, a distorting mirror, cloakroom elements that can be climbed through and a dressing table with colourful elements are arranged. The children can climb, crawl through, crawl, slide and hide. The play areas are barrier-free and feature diverse and inclusive play and movement elements.
The costs total around 280,000 euros, divided into 130,000 euros for the landscaping and 150,000 euros for the play equipment, which will be financed from the city's own funds.

The playground equipment will be manufactured and installed by the company SpielplatzManufaktur mXn Holzbau GmbH & Co.
