Geotope Day on 16 September
At the "Window into Earth History" at Glockenstraße 16, visitors can gain insights into a world 291 million years ago on Geotope Day on Sunday, 16 September, between 10 am and 5 pm. On this day, geotopes throughout Germany are made accessible to visitors, and the "Window into Earth History" - an excavation by the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History - also opens its doors. Here you can look over the shoulders of the excavation team as they carry out their exciting work. Visitors can look forward to new excavation finds and insights into the Petrified Forest. In addition, scientists provide insights into the world 291 million years ago. Under the motto "De Natura Fossilium", inquisitive young researchers can try their hand at digging in a simulated excavation situation for children.
The Geotope Day is coordinated by the German Geological Society - Geological Association. Geotopes such as quarries, rocks or minerals, historic mines and many other excursion destinations can be explored with experts throughout the day. The full programme can be viewed at www.tag-des-geotops.de.
The event is subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF). Participation is free of charge. Registration is not required
