Garden encounters
Various Chemnitz garden projects present themselves on 29 September
On Friday, 29 September 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m., the Environmental Centre, the Adult Education Centre, the Department of Ecology and Sustainability at Chemnitz University of Technology (NATUC) and Nachhall e.V. jointly invite you to the garden encounters under the motto "Protecting biodiversity - preserving seeds" in the Nachhall e.V. seed garden on the corner of Augustusburger Straße and Tschaikowskistraße. Admission is free.
Various garden projects from Chemnitz, such as the permaculture garden at Chemnitz University of Technology, the Chemnitz Intercultural Garden and the Knappteich Garden, will be presented and the value of biodiversity will be made tangible. Jürgen Holzapfel from the Ulenkrug co-operative will also be a guest and speak on the topic of "Self-determined nutrition with your own seeds". There will be a seed and plant exchange and a guided tour of the seed garden.
Background information
Biodiversity does not only take place on green meadows, but also in the centre of the city. Gardens bring greenery to housing estates and provide a habitat for insects, birds and small mammals. They make the diversity of life visible and audible and raise our awareness of the richness of species and varieties. They enable us to harvest home-grown fruit and vegetables and offer an oasis of peace and relaxation.
Community gardens are also a meeting place for young and old and for people from different cultural backgrounds.
