Garage plot on Charlottenstrasse is sold

At its meeting today, the city council decided to sell part of the Charlottenstrasse property, parcel 996/8 in the Gablenz district, to Future Construct AG. The 18,800 square metre garage plot is being sold for 650,000 euros.

With the purchase agreement, the buyer undertakes to demolish the approx. 500 garages on the property within three years, to complete a new garage complex with approx. 372 garages for cars and approx. 44 caravan garages and to install photovoltaic systems on the entire roof area. In addition, two public charging stations for electric vehicles are to be built.

Background:

In November 2020, the city council decided on the standardised implementation of the garage concept from 2017. Specifically, this concerned the garage community "An der Dürerschule", which had around 500 members. The garage community received an amendment to the usage agreement (4th addendum to the usage agreement from 1972), which it did not accept until 31 May 2021. The usage agreement was then terminated by the City of Chemnitz with effect from 31 December 2021. The garages thus became the property of the City of Chemnitz.
