Gablenz and Wittgensdorf outdoor pools open at Whitsun
Preparation for the season in the Chemnitz outdoor pools now complete
Now that the construction work to renovate the upper of the two paddling pools at the Gablenz outdoor pool has been completed ahead of schedule, the outdoor pool will be in operation from next Saturday, 23 May and will open its gates to visitors from 11 a.m., weather permitting.
The start of the season at the Wittgensdorf outdoor pool is also scheduled for next Saturday. This means that with the pools in Bernsdorf and Einsiedel, which opened the previous week, all outdoor pools in the city of Chemnitz will be in operation from the weekend and open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until the start of the school holidays. During the main season (school holidays) from 11 July to 23 August, the municipal outdoor pools will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., or from 9 a.m. if required. And in the off-season from 24 August, they are open from 11 am to 6 pm.
The Rabenstein reservoir started its 2015 season on 1 May.
Season preparation completed
The preparatory work is now complete. After the mild winter, no major or severe frost damage to structures or pipes had to be repaired. In preparation for the season, the swimming pools in all outdoor pools were cleaned, painted and disinfected. The sanitary facilities were also brought into perfect hygienic condition. Slides, diving boards and play equipment were checked for safety and repaired where necessary.
The sunbathing lawns and other green areas invite you to linger after the grass has been mowed and maintained. And, of course, the swimming and bathing pools await visitors with fresh bathing water.
Confirmation from the supervisory authority that the water quality meets the legal requirements must be available for the opening.
The outdoor pools have the following new features in store for the start of the season:
Gablenz outdoor pool: After the lower of the two paddling pools was completely renovated two years ago, this year the youngest pool visitors can also use the newly renovated upper paddling pool. The school and sports department continued the renewal of the surface coverings on two walk-through pools at the cold water outdoor showers, which had already begun last year. The pipework, which constantly transports enough water to the large slide area to ensure a pleasant slide, was also repaired. From now on, endurance swimming in lanes will take place during special opening hours on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in good weather. Otherwise, the outdoor pool opens at 10 am during the main season.
Einsiedel outdoor pool: This outdoor pool is in an impeccable structural and technical condition. The play equipment has been checked. All necessary cleaning and maintenance work was completed in time for the start of the season. New partition walls were installed in the older sanitary areas. The pool has been open since last Saturday.
Bernsdorf outdoor pool: Thanks in part to the support of the "Friends of Bernsdorf outdoor pool" interest group in preparing for the season, the outdoor pool was able to open on time for the start of the season with a new coat of paint on the pool, well-tended green areas and sports activities such as beach volleyball, table tennis and streetball.
Wittgensdorf outdoor pool: The trees providing shade around the paddling pool had to be removed for good due to their lack of stability and the fact that branches kept falling. However, the new stationary shading system ensures that parents supervising their children do not have to stand in the blazing sun. The large slide has been maintained and repaired. The jumping facility has been refurbished in accordance with TÜV specifications.
