Further work planned on future dirt bike track
Contributors can register until the end of November
Volunteers who would like to play an active role in the creation and design of the future dirt bike track on Kalkstraße in Rabenstein can register for the next work assignments until the end of November. Work on the new bike course is set to continue from March 2024. You can register by calling 0371 488 6701 or sending an email to spielplatz(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
The aim is to create a so-called pump track, a self-contained circuit with steep bends, waves and jumps that can be ridden on a bike. The project is due to be completed by summer 2024.
The track on Harthweg in Rottluff, which was previously designed and used by young people themselves, had to be closed for safety reasons. Employees of the City of Chemnitz and users went in search of a new area and found the site on Kalkstraße. There, the City of Chemnitz provided an area of around 2,000 square metres with a direct connection to the premium cycle path.
During the first round of on-site participation, it became clear that the active involvement of future users is very important for the realisation and acceptance of such a facility.
The young people, experts from the BMX scene and representatives of the city of Chemnitz therefore discussed the facility in detail at the previous meetings. The course of the track with various obstacles and curves was then defined and large parts of it have already been pre-modelled on site.
