Further measures to contain the coronavirus

The number of people who have tested positive in Chemnitz has risen to 16 as of today. The city of Chemnitz is implementing the following measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus from tomorrow, 18 March:

Kindergartens and after-school care centres
On the basis of the general decree issued by the state of Saxony on 16 March 2020, daycare centres and schools will be closed from tomorrow, 18 March. Daycare centres and after-school care centres are open for parents who work in the critical infrastructure professions. The prerequisite is that both parents or the sole custodian work in these professions. Parents are informed by the daycare centres and schools. All day-care centres and day-care centres are currently open. Primary and special schools/after-school care centres: 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. early morning care, 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. care by teaching staff, 12.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. care by after-school care staff.

Critical infrastructure sectors (in accordance with Annex 1 of the general ruling, point 4) are

  • Ensuring public safety and order:
    • Saxon State Parliament
    • Police
    • Prison system
    • Courts and public prosecutor's offices
    • Crisis team personnel
    • Professional fire brigade, volunteer fire brigade, provided there is a daily standby duty
    • Rescue service
    • Civil protection and aid organisations, victim protection facilities
    • Essential personnel in institutions and authorities of the Free State of Saxony, the Federal Government (including the Federal Armed Forces), the Saxon municipalities and the Federal Employment Agency
  • Securing the public infrastructure:
    • Telecommunications, postal services, energy supply including petrol stations and oil companies (network security)
    • Water supply
    • Waste disposal (sewage disposal, waste disposal)
    • Air transport (air traffic control personnel required for operations, airports and airlines)
    • Public transport, regional rail transport, energy supply companies (personnel required for network operation)
    • Radio, television, press
  • Food and everyday consumer goods:
    • Food industry
    • Food trade
    • Transport and logistics
  • Healthcare and care:
    • Medical practices, dental practices, veterinary practices
    • Practices of healthcare professionals
    • Hospitals and medical faculties
    • Pharmacies
    • laboratories
    • Manufacture of medicinal products and medical devices
    • Inpatient facilities for care, rehabilitation, integration assistance
    • outpatient care services
    • Economic, supply and cleaning staff in the aforementioned facilities
  • Education and childcare:
    • Staff to ensure emergency care in daycare centres and schools
    • Disability, child and youth welfare facilities

Town halls close from 19 March
The town halls of the City of Chemnitz will be closed from Thursday, 19 March. This applies to the town hall (on the market), the technical town hall, the community centre on the Wall, the offices in Moritzhof and the citizen service points. The city can still be contacted for urgent citizen concerns and benefit recipients. Applications, including for financial benefits, can be posted in the letterboxes in all administrative buildings and will be processed. Applications and other forms for applying for social benefits can be downloaded from the Internet. There are special arrangements for emergencies, e.g. cash payments or topping up cash cards, after consultation by telephone.
The specific availability of the city administration will be published on www.chemnitz.de from tomorrow.

Reminders and payments by the city
The reminder and enforcement of claims by the city will be suspended with immediate effect until 30 April 2020. Exceptions will only be made if the statute of limitations and thus the final default of the outstanding payment is imminent.

In line with the tax measures of the Free State of Saxony, trade tax and amusement tax can be deferred interest-free until 30 April 2020 upon application.

The parental contributions for the city's daycare centres and after-school care centres due on 15 April 2020 will generally not be charged and collected. Parents whose children are being looked after also do not pay these contributions.

Committees
In agreement with the Council of Elders, there will be no committee meetings until at least Easter. This applies to the City Council as well as committees, advisory boards and local councils.

The signatures of support for the mayoral election in the town hall are still possible.
