Further investments in school building construction

At its meeting today, the city council approved investments totalling almost 14.7 million euros for 22 projects to improve the school infrastructure. Over eleven million euros are to come from funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act. All measures are to be realised by the end of 2022.

Altchemnitz special school:

Partial refurbishment is planned for the building (including the façade, building services and security systems as well as interior refurbishment). The costs are estimated at around 6.9 million euros. Of this, 5.2 million euros in subsidies are planned.

School sports halls

Renovations are also planned for the school sports halls of the Chemnitz School Model, the Georg Weerth Secondary School and the Reichenhain Primary School. There is a need for refurbishment in the halls, the sanitary and changing areas and the building envelope. The total costs for the three halls amount to 3.9 million euros, of which 2.9 million euros in funding is planned.

Outdoor facilities

At the primary schools in Ebersdorf, Einsiedel, the Kirchner primary school and the Ludwig Richter primary school, there is a need to renovate the outdoor facilities, among other things. The costs for the refurbishment of the outdoor facilities amount to 1.4 million euros.

Data network expansion

The expansion of the digital data networks is planned for six buildings. In the future, every classroom in the schools will be connected to fibre optics. In the vocational school sector, the BSZ für Wirtschaft II and the BSZ für Ernährung, Gastgewerbe, Gesundheit are planned for this, in the grammar school sector the Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe-Gymnasium and the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium and in the secondary school sector the Friedrich-Adolf-Wilhelm-Diesterweg-Oberschule and the Untere Luisen-Oberschule. The costs amount to 1.1 million euros, including 830,000 euros in subsidies.

Measures by independent organisations

As an important part of the city's school landscape, schools run by independent organisations should also be included in the measures. For this reason, around 1.1 million euros in funding has been reserved for measures by independent organisations. This requires a contribution of around 360,000 euros from the independent schools.
