At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided to transfer the funds of 450,000 euros earmarked for the KOSMOS Festival, which were originally intended to go to Chemnitzer Tourismus und Marketing GmbH (CTM), to the new organiser Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.
As the successor to Chemnitzer Tourismus und Marketing GmbH (CWE), CTM was the organiser of KOSMOS until 2024. However, CTM has been in liquidation since 8 January 2025. This was decided by the city council in December of last year - partly on the grounds that the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH should act as the organiser for KOSMOS 2025 (as a Capital of Culture project) (B-284/2024).
The KOSMOS festival will take place this year from 13 to 15 June 2025. KOSMOS has a special significance in the Capital of Culture year, similar to the opening on 18 January 2025.
KOSMOS is a festival prepared and organised by a large group of stakeholders with civic engagement. It includes music, social events, sport and art and offers a wide range of activities and performances with artists, musicians, initiatives, companies and sports personalities. In previous editions, it has attracted tens of thousands of visitors.
Despite a broad base of supporters, helpers and volunteers, an event of this size requires a formal structure for registration, financing, contract design, etc.
Preparations for the festival by the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH are already well advanced. The reallocated funds will flow in full into the artistic contributions and technical services. This means that the overall financing of this event can be secured.
