Funding is available for barrier-free construction

Applications for the investment programme can be submitted until 31 October

For the coming year, funding from the "Barrier-free building - favourite places for all" investment programme is once again available for the removal of existing barriers. The Free State of Saxony is providing a total of 289,800 euros for the city of Chemnitz for 2025. Applications will be accepted by the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office until 31 October 2024.

Using every restaurant, going to the cinema without restrictions, visiting a museum or actively doing sport in a club is not possible for everyone. Many of the facilities are not accessible for wheelchair users and cannot be used to their full extent by people with hearing and visual impairments or learning difficulties.

With this in mind, the Free State of Saxony launched the investment programme for the removal of barriers for the first time in 2014 under the motto "Favourite places for everyone" with a total funding amount of 4 million euros. It is intended to make access easier for people with disabilities and turn the places mentioned as examples into their favourite places. It is based on the guidelines of the Saxon State Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Cohesion for the investment promotion of facilities, services and offers for people with disabilities (FRL Investitionen Teilhabe).

The funding can be effective in many areas of public life, such as culture, leisure, education, but also in the healthcare sector, such as doctors' surgeries, physiotherapies or pharmacies. In addition to charitable initiatives, clubs and associations, tradespeople are also eligible.

The funding programme provides for a cost reimbursement of up to 100 percent if the project does not cost more than 25,000 euros. 25 per cent of the total funding amount is to be awarded for measures to create accessibility in existing outpatient medical and dental practices.

The form "Barrier-free building investment programme - favourite places for everyone" is available at: Dienstleistungsportal der Stadt Chemnitz_Formular.
