Funding for façade greening possible again
Applications for funding for façade greening can now be submitted to the City of Chemnitz's urban planning office again. With the new budget, the city council has also decided to continue the greening of facades in Chemnitz until 2024.
The greening of buildings can make a significant contribution to improving the local urban climate. The plants cool the air and the building envelope in summer and act as an additional layer of insulation in winter. Noise is reduced and pollutants and fine dust are filtered and bound. However, green buildings are not only beneficial for the climate, but also contribute to the beautification of the cityscape.
This is why subsidies are granted in areas that are particularly affected by heat islands and noise. A distinction is made between two zones. In zone A - where the urban climate is particularly affected - 75 per cent, up to a maximum of 7,500 euros, is granted. In zone B, 50 per cent, up to a maximum of 5,000 euros, is granted.
Funding is available for the planning and construction of wall or façade greenery. Ground preparation or the hire of scaffolding can also be subsidised. In future, support will also be provided for the restoration of existing green façades.
Interested building owners can obtain advice from the Urban Renewal Department, Funding Coordination in the City of Chemnitz's Urban Planning Office.
