Full closure of Erfenschlager Straße due to sewer construction work for new stormwater overflow structure
From 12 to 22 August 2015, Erfenschlager Straße will be completely closed to traffic between Lengefelder Straße and the roundabout. The diversion will be via Reichenhainer Straße, Südring and Annaberger Straße.
The reason for the full closure is sewer construction work by the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz.
At the junction of Erfenschlager Straße and Lengefelder Straße, the ESC is constructing a new rainwater overflow structure with a discharge pipe into the Zwönitz to the south.
During heavy rainfall events, diluted wastewater is discharged from the existing combined sewer into the watercourse in order to relieve the sewer system from overflow events. Over a length of 275 metres, a new reinforced concrete drainage pipe with diameters of DN 1200 or DN 1400 will be laid in a shallow flow gradient to the Zwönitz. The flow rate was calculated at 3,950 litres per second. The Chemnitz - Aue railway line has to be crossed underneath.
The construction work, which has been ongoing since June 2015, has so far been carried out with the help of a half-sided road closure with traffic lights. However, there is not enough space on the road to lay the new DN 1200 sewer, meaning that a temporary full road closure is unavoidable.
Once the full closure of Erfenschlager Straße has been lifted, Lengefelder Straße will also have to be closed. The exact period for this closure will be announced shortly.
The actual stormwater overflow structure will be inserted into the existing combined sewer at the junction. The prefabricated structure has a footprint of 6.0 x 9.0 metres and is founded approx. 4.5 metres below the top edge of the road. All other manhole structures are also prefabricated and can therefore be quickly installed on site.
The company Gunter Hüttner + Co. GmbH from Chemnitz has been commissioned to carry out the work. The contract is worth around 930,000 euros.
The entire construction project is scheduled for completion in November 2015.
