From stone to digitalisation. The forms of media through the ages

Lecture on 12 February, 6 pm, City Archive

On Wednesday 12 February at 6 pm, interested parties are invited to the City Archive, Aue 16. Dr Paolo Cecconi, Head of the Chemnitz City Archive, will be speaking on the topic of "From stone to digital copies. The forms of media through the ages". Admission is free.

Our civilisation is based on the written word and this can be felt in our everyday lives. The amount and variety of written information and texts that accompany us is enormous. Along with technological progress, not only language and writing have changed and developed, but also the media on which words, sentences and texts are written, stored and preserved. The question immediately arises: How and in what form is information written today? How was it in the past? How long can this information be read? On this evening, the history of information carriers and their respective characteristics will be described. The journey through time begins in ancient Egypt and Babylon and leads right up to the present day.
