From green space to species-rich butterfly meadow
VHS@home: Online lecture on 29 March, 6.45 to 8.15 pm
The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to an online lecture on Monday, 29 March 2021, from 6.45 to 8.15 p.m. on the preservation and care of a butterfly meadow. The focus will be on near-natural gardening and species conservation in your own garden or on your balcony.
Participation is free of charge. Anyone interested can register by 3 p.m. on 29 March at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will receive an access link by email.
How a butterfly meadow develops can be observed for several years in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf. The BUND Chemnitz regional group looks after a large meadow there. Together with other committed nature conservationists, a green wasteland is increasingly being transformed into a fascinating and colourful habitat for birds and insects.
The illustrated lecture explains the development steps towards a species-rich meadow and provides an insight into the diversity of its animal inhabitants. The lecture and discussion invite participants to exchange ideas on the creation and maintenance of flowering meadows. Helpful tips for insect-friendly gardening in the city will also be provided.
The event marks the start of the "Living Consciously" course series at Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in the 2021 summer semester. The series comprises seven events that show that a conscious approach to natural resources is possible in everyday life. Other topics include orchards and exploring edible plants. The first lecture is a cooperation between the BUND Chemnitz regional group and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
