Fröbelschule celebrates its 100th birthday
The Friedrich Fröbel School is celebrating the 100th birthday of its school building today with a festive event and an autumn festival. Mayor Barbara Ludwig gave a welcome address at the event, which took place in the auditorium of the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymasium: "When a school like the Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule turns 100 years old, it has an eventful history behind it. The school is a contemporary witness to the city's history and an important companion. Today, 200 pupils fill this traditional school with life in a remarkable, creative and sincere way. I would like to congratulate the headmaster, the teachers and all the pupils who make this building their school."
Pupils from the Friedrich-Fröbel-Förderschule and the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymasium organised the programme.
History of the school:
At the beginning of the 20th century, the school was built as a secondary school for girls according to plans by city architect Richard Möbius. The school on Reichstraße was opened on 26 September 1912. It was renamed Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule in 1971.
In 2006, the city renewed the windows and floor of the sports hall for 600,000 euros. Thanks to funds from the second economic stimulus package, the roof and façade were renovated and the toilets of the Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule were refurbished last year. 1.45 million euros were spent on this.
