Friends of the Library Association of the Year 2016
The Chemnitz City Library Supporters' Association has been honoured as "Friends of the Year" by the Friends' Association of the German Library Association.
The working group established this nationwide award with the support of private sponsors. The aim of this award is to recognise the work of the 440 or so Friends of Libraries in Germany and to raise public awareness of this work.
The Chairman of the Board of the Chemnitz City Library Friends' Association, Curt Bertram, received the certificate and the 2,000 euro prize in Stuttgart on 15 October 2016.
In its statement, the jury recognised the work of the Friends' Association because it provides a wide range of reading opportunities for young and old people as well as for migrants, raised around 500 items for the library from publishers and private individuals in 2015 and collected donations of around 36,000 euros. He also carries out professional lobbying work to avert cuts to the library budget, generates book sponsors, regularly organises book sales and was awarded 2nd prize last year.
Curt Bertram will be available for interviews on 24 October 2016 at 10.30 a.m. in the run-up to the "Library Network" press event. The meeting point is in the Science & Technology section of the TIETZ Central Library.
