Free use of space in the city centre
At its meeting today, the city council approved the free use of space for public cultural, sporting and leisure events in Chemnitz city centre.
The decision is valid from 1 January to 31 October 2019. Administrative fees, electricity and water costs are excluded. The city centre area is bounded by the city centre ring road (Theaterstraße - Bahnhofstraße - Carolastraße - Richard-Tauber-Straße - Karl-Liebknecht-Straße - Mühlenstraße - Theaterstraße).
With this decision, the city and the city councillors want to strengthen the city centre. In the past, event organisers, retailers and restaurateurs have complained about a drop in visitor numbers and loss of sales. This can jeopardise the staging of events. The aim is to revitalise the city centre.
