When the two-year budget expires at the end of the year, the Free Fridays programme at the city's art, technology and nature collections will also come to an end.
The offer was included in the 2023/2024 budget following a decision by the city council. It was valid in the museums of the Chemnitz Art Collections (Kunstsammlungen am Theaterplatz, Museum Gunzenhauser, Schloßbergmuseum, Henry van de Velde Museum in the Villa Esche and Burg Rabenstein), in the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz, in the Neue Sächsische Galerie sponsored by the Neue Chemnitzer Kunsthütte e. V. and in the Chemnitz Industrial Museum sponsored by the Zweckverband Sächsisches Industriemuseum.
Children and young people up to the age of 18 continue to benefit from free admission to municipal museums and independent museum facilities. The smac - State Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz - also offers free admission to children and young people up to the age of 18.
In addition, students of Chemnitz University of Technology also receive free admission to the city's museums on presentation of their student ID.
