Fourth volume of the "Chemnitz Fates" published

A new volume in the "Chemnitz Fates" series will be presented on 10 April at 11 a.m. in the City Archive, Aue 16. With this fourth instalment, the Chemnitz History Society is continuing its successful series of publications, which has been running for over ten years, in which authors with diverse life experiences have their say.

The volume offers snapshots of our city from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The reader looks at everyday life from very different perspectives, as if through a time window. 39 contributions are included, ranging from the German Empire to the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and the Second World War, the post-war and GDR periods and the period after reunification.
The authors reminisce about their childhood and youth. They talk about where they went to school, which teachers they remember fondly or less fondly, how they learnt to swim, played or amused themselves. Forgotten establishments such as the Hedwigbad, a travelling zoo in Chemnitz or the former café "FREUND" form the background. "Das gute Clärchen oder So spielt's Läbn" is the title of an article that tells of a special relationship with the work of Richard Wagner, who spent time in Chemnitz.
In addition to the Second World War and the destruction of our city, which have left their mark on the memory of an entire generation, the focus is also on ensuring that the experiences of the decades of the GDR are not lost. The special issue of the "Mitteilungen des Chemnitzer Geschichtsvereins" has been conceptually prepared by an editorial team headed by Klaus Reichmann, the editorial team based in the city archives and other members of the history association. A total of 156 memoirs have now been published in this series, which was launched in 2002.
