Four weeks under the sign of Europe
Lectures, discussions and cultural events from 30 April to 31 May
The Europe Weeks 2023 will take place from 30 April to 31 May. These are organised every year in Germany on the initiative of the federal states. What is new is that instead of one week in May, four weeks will now be dedicated to Europe.
In 2023, various stakeholders will once again be taking part in public and internal events in Chemnitz.
The aim of the Europe Weeks is to familiarise citizens with the European Union and inform them about its history and current challenges.
Public institutions and associations are called upon to communicate their activities at European level in various formats such as lectures, discussions and cultural events.
The highlight of the Europe Weeks is 9 May. This day is regarded as the founding day of the European Union. On 9 May 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed the establishment of a European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This new form of political co-operation in Europe was to make wars between the nations of Europe unthinkable. Since then, 9 May has been celebrated as Europe Day for peace and unity in Europe.
