Foundation stone laid for school for the physically disabled

Over the next few months, the largest school construction project in Chemnitz in the coming years will become a reality in Heinrich-Schütz-Straße: a special educational support centre - the Chemnitz School for the Physically Disabled - will be built by the end of 2014. On 24 June, from 10 a.m., Mayor Barbara Ludwig will lay the foundation stone for this project together with the head of the regional office of the Saxon Education Agency, Jörg Heynoldt, and the headmistress Annett Goerlitz.

On 20 June 2012, the Chemnitz City Council approved the new building at the Heinrich-Schütz-Straße site. A total of 32.6 million euros will be invested in the extensive construction project. The Free State is subsidising the construction with a total of 14.8 million euros. The city of Chemnitz itself is investing 17.8 million euros.
The new school site will house the school for the physically disabled, a two-court sports hall with outdoor facilities, a residential home, all-day care for children and young people with physical and multiple disabilities and therapy rooms.
