Foundation stone laid for integrated regional control centre
The foundation stone for the new integrated regional control centre (IRLS) for the city of Chemnitz and the districts of Erzgebirge and Central Saxony will be ceremonially laid tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the presence of Treasurer Berthold Brehm.
From spring 2014, the new control centre at Schadestraße 15 will gradually accept emergency calls via 112 and 19222 and dispatch the necessary fire, rescue and disaster control units. The switchover will be carried out first for Chemnitz, followed by the Erzgebirgskreis district and then the Mittelsachsen district at three-month intervals. The merger and switchover will have no impact on the population, nor will there be any changes to the local rescue services and fire brigades as a result of the control centre.
The reorganisation and thus the merger of the control centres was necessitated by changes in the legal requirements of the Free State of Saxony. The control centre will then also become part of the Saxony control centre network and one of five large control centres in the Free State.
The construction costs for the new centre amount to around 11.8 million euros. Half of these costs will be borne by the health insurance companies responsible for the rescue service. The Free State of Saxony is subsidising the construction project with 3.5 million euros, with the remaining share being borne by the district of Central Saxony, the Erzgebirgskreis and the city of Chemnitz.
- The service area of the Chemnitz Integrated Regional Control Centre will cover an area of 4,160 km² with approx. 1 million inhabitants (city of Chemnitz, Erzgebirgskreis and Mittelsachsen district).
- An estimated 350,000 calls per year are expected to be received.
- The control centre will alert and manage approx. 10,000 fire brigade operations and approx. 250,000 emergency and ambulance transports per year.
- The IRLS will be manned around the clock by at least 3 dispatchers. During the course of the day, up to 13 dispatchers will work simultaneously. In the event of major emergencies, up to 24 dispatchers can work simultaneously.
- If the Chemnitz IRLS or a neighbouring integrated regional control centre is completely or partially unavailable, a neighbouring large-scale control centre can automatically take over operations.
