Found aerial bomb is defused
Restricted area has been lifted - residents can return to their homes
The aerial bomb found yesterday during forestry work between Einsiedel and Dittersdorf was successfully defused at around 1 pm.
The exclusion zone has now been lifted and residents can return to their homes.
The evacuation affected 352 residents from the south-east of Einsiedel and 320 residents from the north of Dittersdorf. The explosive ordnance clearance service had set up an exclusion zone of around 1000 metres.
At the same time, a suspicious object was found in an allotment garden in Reichenhain, which turned out to be a stick bomb. The site was secured. After defusing in Einsiedel, the object was taken away by the explosive ordnance disposal service.
Head of operations and head of the Chemnitz fire brigade, René Kraus: "Despite the difficult conditions due to corona and the discovery of another explosive ordnance in the city area, the evacuation measures went very well and quickly. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the emergency services for their support and understanding of those affected."
135 employees of the City of Chemnitz were deployed.
