"Forgotten heroes" - travelling exhibition from Usti ad Labem in Chemnitz town hall

Invitation to the opening on Monday, 12 November, 5 p.m. - Exhibition will be shown in Chemnitz until 21 December

A new exhibition will open in the exhibition room of Chemnitz City Hall at Markt 1 on Monday, 12 November 2012 at 5 pm. On display will be a travelling exhibition from Usti nad Labem, Chemnitz's Czech twin town. Entitled "Forgotten Heroes", the exhibition provides information about "German anti-fascists in the Czech lands".
The exhibition will be opened by Uwe Fiedler, Director of the Chemnitz Castle Hill Museum, together with Tomas Okurka, Director of the Museum of the City of Usti nad Labem.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend. Interested citizens are also cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition, which will subsequently be on display in Chemnitz Town Hall until 21 December. The travelling exhibition can be viewed during the regular opening hours of the town hall from Monday to Friday; the exhibition room is located in the entrance area of the town hall on the left.

Information on the "Forgotten Heroes" exhibition: According to the organisers, the reason for the exhibition is the resolution passed by the Czech government in 2005, which expressed deep appreciation for the German anti-fascists and at the same time regretted that many German-speaking citizens of the former Czechoslovakia who were active in the resistance movement against the National Socialists did not receive the recognition they deserved after the end of the Second World War and were often persecuted by Czech society at the time. The resolution adopted in 2005 also provided funding for the project "Documentation of the fates of active anti-fascists who were affected by the measures taken against the so-called enemy population in Czechoslovakia after the end of the Second World War". The project includes eyewitness accounts and the creation of a database as well as the travelling exhibition "Forgotten Heroes" developed by the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Museum of the City of Usti nad Labem and the National Archives.
