Forest youth games in the Zeisigwald
This year's Forest Youth Games in Chemnitz concluded with the Forest Youth Games with disabled girls and boys in the Zeisigwald forest. The state enterprise Sachsenforst, which is responsible for the organisation and staging of youth forest games in Saxony, organised the games in Chemnitz for the first time for physically disabled children, including two girls who rely on wheelchairs. The children taking part in the Forest Youth Games are taught at the Special Education Centre/Chemnitz School for the Physically Disabled; physically disabled children from the Chemnitz area also took part in the event in the Zeisigwald. The children were also accompanied and supervised on site by their teachers.
In the forest youth games programme, the children mastered the various stations "Touch boxes", "Building insect hotels", "Animals of the forest", "Recognising tree species" and the "Mirror walk along the treetops" with great enthusiasm. The forest youth games ended with a joint lunchtime picnic in the Zeisigwald forest.
According to information from the Forestry Department at the Parks and Gardens Office, the first round of this year's Forest Youth Games in the city's Zeisigwald forest was also very successful at the end of May: 200 pupils from Chemnitz primary schools Ebersdorf and Adelsberg, Annenschule, Albert-Einstein-Grundschule and Niederlichtenau primary school took part in the event.
